National Museum of Archaeology
Founded by Royal Decree by Isabella II in 1867.
The museum is located in the Library and Museum Palace, a building in the Neoclassical style built in the nineteenth century and designed by Francisco Jareño.
The museum boasts superb artefacts from its prominent collections of Prehistoric, Ancient Egyptian, Greek, Roman, Visigothic Hispania and Medieval pieces, in addition to Decorative Art pieces from the fifteenth to the eighteenth centuries.
The museum gardens house a reproduction of the Altamira cave paintings.
