El Pardo Royal Palace
Sitting atop Monte del Pardo, this palace is located a short distance from Madrid.
Built over an old residence of King Henry IV of Castile, it was later remodelled by Kings Charles I, Philip II and Philip III of Spain Its current design is the work of architect Francisco Sabatini, by order of King Charles III of Spain.
The interior is draped with tapestries designed by Bayeu and Goya, as well as pieces of furniture from the eighteenth and nineteenth centuries.
Since 1983 the palace has been used as a residence by foreign heads of state when on official visits to Spain.
